Volunteer/Internship

Safe Passage has an active volunteer and internship program and we are always looking for individuals and groups who want to make a different in the lives of survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The program was established in 1981.

Safe Passage's volunteer training is approved by Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals, Inc. (ICDVP), an organization dedicated to preserve the highest standards in the field. In addition, Safe Passage is also an ICDVP certified supervision and CEU site. For more information on IDCVP, please check them out at www.ilcdvp.org.

Our volunteer/intern/staff training has recently been revised and updated to include the most current information, emphasizing issues faced by victims as well as ways volunteers and staff can encourage and empower victims' independence.

Who is a Safe Passage volunteer?
Any individual who is interested in helping our community become a less violent place to live.
Anyone who is concerned about the future of our children and their children.

Why are volunteers important?
Without our volunteers, Safe Passage would have a more difficult time continuing to offer and maintain the type and amount of services needed to help those affected by domestic and sexual violence. Safe Passage volunteers have saved the agency a considerable amount of money and time.

Do I need experience and training?
Safe Passage conducts periodic trainings for those interested in volunteering with us. Volunteers interested in having any type of client contact are required to complete a free 60+ hour training. These trainings are held 3 times each year.
