Civil No Contact Orders

Things to know about Civil No Contact Orders...

A Civil No Contact Order is like an Order of Protection, for people who are victims of sexual assault and/or sexual abuse.
Two types:
- Emergency Civil No Contact Order lasts from 14-21 days
- Plenary Civil No Contact Order lasts up to 2 years
  After 2 years have passed, you can go back to the courthouse and ask for an extension of up to 2 more years.
A Civil No Contact Order is for people who were not in a relationship with the offender, unlike an Order of Protection where there has to be some form of relationship.
- YES: Stranger, Acquaintance
- NO: Dating, Marriage
A Parent can get a Civil No Contact Order on behalf of a:
- Minor child.
- An adult who because of age, disability, health or inaccessibility cannot file the petition. (EXAMPLE: if a child is sexually assaulted by a next door neighbor.)
Just like an Order of Protection, the Civil No Contact Order can be MODIFIED to be specific for each client or based on a change in circumstance.
